PAYER MAY RETURN TO BINGHAMTON; OTTAWA SIGNS CENTER TO 1-YEAR CONTRACT

The Ottawa Senators signed center Serge Payer to a one-year agreement.

Payer returns to the Senators after playing the last two seasons with the Florida Panthers organization. The 27-year-old played in Ottawa and with the club’s American Hockey League affiliate in Binghamton, N.Y., during the 2003-04 season.

In 2005-06, he completed his first NHL season, recording two goals, six assists, and 26 penalty minutes over 71 games with the Panthers. Payer has a total of 119 NHL games played, seven goals, six assists and 49 penalty minutes. In the 2003-04 season with the Senators, he had one assist and two penalty minutes in five games.

Payer came into the pro ranks with the Florida organization (2000 to 2003), playing with AHL franchises in Louisville, Utah and San Antonio, as well as with the Panthers.

In five AHL seasons, from 2000 to 2005, Payer recorded 37 goals, 60 assists and 148 penalty minutes over 200 games.
