A familiar face may return to the Binghamton Senator’s defense corps as the Ottawa Senators today announced the signing of Andy Hedlund to a one-year contract. Hedlund played for the Binghamton Senators, Ottawa’s AHL affiliate, in the club’s first three seasons before heading overseas where he recorded 34 points (12 goals, 22 assists) in 52 games for the Krefeld Penguins of Germany’s Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) last season.
The 28-year-old defenseman tallied 46 points (7 goals, 39 assists) and 259 penalty minutes in 214 regular season games for the Binghamton Senators from 2002 to 2005. He also served as an alternate captain during his final season in Binghamton.
At the conclusion of the 2004-05 season, Hedlund was named the B-Sens’ Man of the Year for his work in the Greater Binghamton community.
Undrafted, Hedlund had previously signed a two-year contract with Ottawa on Dec. 18, 2003.
