Goaltender Barry Brust blocked 38 of 39 shots for first-star honors as the Manchester Monarchs beat Binghamton 3-1 on Sunday before a sold out Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.†
The win was Manchesterís first ever in three tries at the Arena.†
Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov started the scoring at 5:27 of the first period with the Monarchs on the power play.†
Winger Konstantin Pushkarev then pushed the lead to 2-0 with his 18th goal of the season late in the second period.†
Manchester would hold that lead until Brandon Bochenski made a great individual effort to get to the net and flip the puck past Brust.† Goalie Kelly Guard picked up an assist on the play, the first helper for a Binghamton goaltender this season.†
But center Connor James put the game away less than a minute later with an empty-net goal.†
Kelly Guard earned third-star honors for Binghamton by stopping 30 of 32 shots.† Binghamton converted on one of five power-plays while Manchester was successful in one of four attempts.†
The Senators return to action on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. with the Norfolk Admirals in town.† Tickets are available by calling (607) 722-SENS.
