BINGHAMTON - The Binghamton Senators dropped their third straight postseason contest at the hands of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday night before a sold-out crowd at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The 3-2 loss puts the Sens behind the Penguins in their East Division Semifinal Series three games to two.
Denis Hamel gave the Sens a 1-0 lead midway through the first period with his first goal of the postseason. The power-play tally was set up by defensemen Brian Pothier and Christoph Schubert.
The Penguins pulled even at one goal a piece when Rob Scuderi put home a power-play goal of his own at the 1:19 mark of the middle frame.
Ryan VandenBussche extended gave his Penguins a 2-1 lead 16:38 into the second period. Maxime Talbot was given the lone assist on the goal.
Four minutes into the third period, Josh Langfeld tied the game at two for Binghamton. Anton Volchenkov and Antoine Vermette helped to set up Langfeld’s power-play goal.
Only 34 seconds later Ryan VandenBussche picked up his second goal of the evening and gave his team a 3-2 lead which they would hold on to for the victory.
Ray Emery stopped 28 of 31 shots in the loss for the Sens. Andy Chiodo stopped 28 of 30 shots while earning the win for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Binghamton was 2 for 7 with the extra skater while the Penguins finished the game 1 for 4.
Game six between Binghamton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will take place on Sunday night at Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The game is scheduled for a 5:05 p.m. face off with all of the pre-game action beginning at 4:35 p.m. on 680-AM WINR.
