LOCKER ROOM REPORT 04/09/05

JASON SPEZZA

On playing the Penguins:

“We played a good game last night and we wanted to make sure we didn’t start slow like we started the other night.  We’re going into the playoffs and we might play this team later on so we wanted to make sure we were ready.”

On his 17-game scoring streak:

“I don’t know if I have ever had 17.  I had a couple of long ones in junior.  Right now I am just trying to make plays out there and I am trying to put myself in good defensive position and off their mistakes try to make something happen.”

On possibly playing the Penguins in the playoffs:

“If we play these guys, if we play anyone it doesn’t matter.  We want to sure we are playing well going into the playoffs.  This is important for us to have a good little stretch here and to try and win a few in a row and be feeling good about ourselves going into the playoffs.”

On the team defense:

“That has been a lot of our success.  Razor has made some big saves for us early on and we are really clogging up the neutral zone really well.  That makes our offense happen and that causes turnovers and that is how you get offense.

On having four 30-goal scorers:

“It is pretty amazing to have four guys with 30 and we have a couple of guys who have a chance to get some more.  In this day in age in hockey where there is not too many goals to have four guys at 30 and a couple of guys who have a chance to get it is pretty exciting.”

RAY EMERY

On recent play:

“We are doing pretty well as a team.  We have had some great group efforts as of late and it has been exciting because we are in the playoff hunt and battling for first place in our division.  But personally I just want to have a good week here.  Injury free is a big thing and the team is doing well in that respect too.”

On playing Bridgeport tomorrow (4:05 p.m.):

“It is tough going into their building anytime especially on a Sunday after you have played two games and that was the situation we were in last time.  We are definitely gunning for them this time though because of the results last time and we know they are playing pretty well.  It should be a good match up tomorrow.”

JOSH LANGFELD

On team getting to 100 points:

“We were talking about it today (being a franchise record).  We obviously have to keep winning because Philly keeps winning and we are in charge of our own destination right now.  We just have to keep winning hockey games.  That is the bottom line and if we do that we are rolling into the playoffs here and staying hot.”

On getting off to a faster start tonight:

“The fast start really helped.  We came out and really established a lot and the momentum carried over goal after goal.  We just kept riding the wave and it was very good for this hockey team, I think we really needed that.”
