|SENATORS HALT AMERKS HOME WINNING STREAK AT 17|
The Binghamton Senators snapped the Rochester Americans’ 17-game home-winning streak with a 4-3 overtime victory on Wednesday night.
Christoph Schubert ripped a slap shot under the arm of Amerks goalie Ryan Miller at 1:57 of overtime as the Senators won their fifth straight game on the road.
The Amerks last home loss came on December 11 against the Hamilton Bulldogs. It looked like the streak would continue when forward Paul Gaustad put the Amerks ahead 3-1 at 2:22 of the second period.
But the Senators struck back quickly with goals only 19 seconds apart from forwards Pat Kavanagh and Josh Langfeld.
Ray Emery and Rochester goalie Ryan Miller did not allow any goals in the third period and the game went to overtime where Schubert scored his third goal in as many games. Denis Hamel, who had three points (1 goal, 2 assists) on the night assisted on the game winner.
Emery made 30 saves on 33 shots in winning his 18th game of the season. Ryan Miller stopped 31 of 35 shots in the loss dropping his record to 35-13-3.
Binghamton went 1 for 3 on the power play while the Amerks were scoreless in five chances.
