The Binghamton Senators snapped a three-game skid on Wednesday night by defeating the first-place Philadelphia Phantoms 4-2 at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. The B-Sens have won two of the last three games against the Phantoms, while collecting points in three of the last four games.
Right wing Niko Dimitrakos returned to the line-up tonight for the Binghamton Senators after missing seven games due to a concussion and immediately paid dividends. With the B-Sens operating on the power play, Dimitrakos took a feed from Denis Hamel and looped in from behind the cage. The winger turned in front of the crease and snapped a wrist shot past netminder Scott Munroe.
Defenseman Matt Carkner extended Binghamton’s lead to two goals just before the end of the first period. Carkner took a pass from Hamel and advanced from right to left behind the cage, beating Munroe with a wrap-a-round goal at the left post.
Center Josh Hennessy added the B-Sens third goal early in the middle period. The B-Sens leading scorer crashed the net from the right faceoff circle as Scott May fired a shot from the high slot. Hennessy tapped home the rebound for his 12th goal of the season.
The Phantoms responded late in the second period when Alexandre Picard buried a power-play goal. With the Phantoms operating on a 5-on-3 power play, Picard took a feed from Jared Ross and fired a one-timer past Jeff Glass. Hennessy had just exited the penalty box, making it a 5-on-4 power-play goal.
Philadelphia pulled within one goal with less than five minutes left in the third period off a Triston Grant marker.
The B-Sens would add a late empty-net goal to make it a 4-2 final. Jeff Glass turned away 41 shots to earn his 14th victory of the season. In his first game back, Dimitrakos collected two points (1+1=2) and a plus-2 rating.
