B-SENS WEEKLY RELEASE

LAST WEEK:  Binghamton opened their sixth American Hockey League season against the Albany River Rats on Saturday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.  The River Rats held off the B-Sens for a 3-1 win.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6TH vs. ALBANY (1-3 L):  The B-Sens battled Albany to a first period stalemate, as netminder Jeff Glass stopped 16 shots.  Following a River Rats strike from Jerome Samson, rookie center Ilya Zubov knotted the game at 1 apiece with his first AHL tally.  Fellow rookies Brian Lee and Alexander Nikulin assisted on the game-tying goal.  Albany center Dave Gove broke the tie with an even-strength tally at 7:59 of the final period.  Albany tacked on a late empty-netter to make it a 3-1 final.

THIS WEEK:  The Senators resume their schedule on Friday night as they welcome I-81 rival Syracuse to the Arena.  The following night, the defending Eastern Conference champion Hershey Bears come to town as Binghamton wraps up its three-game home stand.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12TH vs. SYRACUSE (7:05):  The B-Sens were 5-2-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) against the Crunch last season, including a 4-1 win on April 1.  Defenseman Tomas Kudelka buried the game-winning goal, his first AHL marker.  Syracuse has stumbled out of the gates, dropping their first two games.  Derek MacKenzie collected two goals in the first two games for Syracuse.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 13TH vs. HERSHEY (7:05):  The B-Sens finished the 2006-07 season with two consecutive wins over the Bears.  The Bears dropped their season opener to division foe Wilkes-Barre by a 5-4 final.  Left wing Chris Bourque paced the Bears attack with three points (2+1=3).

SENS IN THE COMMUNITY:  The 3rd Annual Binghamton Senators Charity Golf Classic gets underway today at 12:00 noon at Endwell Greens Golf Club.  The golf outing raises money for the Family Enrichment Network.  Each crew of four golfers is assigned one Binghamton Senators’ player.  An AHL/NHL silent auction and steak dinner follows the golf tournament.  The event has raised nearly $20,000 to date, which helps support services and programs offered at Family Enrichment Network, to assist children and their families looking for a better way in life.
